ABOUT ME |
Hi! I'm Morgan.
Morgan is a journalist at Arizona State University's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication in Phoenix, Arizona; she's also in Barrett, The Honors College and is working on a second major in political science from The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at ASU. Morgan's goal is to tell stories about political and policy issues, including education, technology and housing, relating to Arizona and communities inside the state, as well as larger national and state issues. While at the Cronkite School, she has worked for The State Press, ASU's student-run independent newspaper, for six semesters in various positions. These positions have included politics reporter, senior reporter, politics editor and newsletter editor, where she launched a new original reporting newsletter on Tempe, Arizona. She has also worked as a reporting intern for The Copper Courier, a digital intern for RightThisMinute, an education and technology reporter for Cronkite News' Washington, D.C. Bureau, a digital production intern for The Arizona Republic and as a digital reporter for the Carnegie-Knight News21 program, which is a national reporting initiative headquartered at the Cronkite School of Journalism that brings together top journalism students from across the country to report in-depth projects for major media outlets. She currently works at The Arizona Republic as a national politics intern. As a member of the national politics team at the Republic, Fischer pitches, writes and covers a variety of politics related stories, which often leads her to attend events and meetings of Arizona's political leaders. Before her arrival at the Cronkite School, Morgan was very active in journalism in her hometown of Sterling, Virginia. She wrote for Dominion High School's newspaper, DHS Press, for all four years of high school, as well as serving as the editor-in-chief for two of those years. DHS Press also has a strong broadcast element, and while on the staff she wrote, shot, produced and edited numerous video packages for the paper. She produced multiple video stories for PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Labs (SRL) while in high school. At SRL, she was a Summer Academy 2018 Fellow, a Homegrown Fellow in 2019 and was named on their list of 20 under 20 Up-and-Coming Storytellers. She was also recently named on Dominion High School's "Wall of Fame" for her work in journalism at the school and with PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Labs. Morgan hopes that her work can inform her community and the public about important policy issues that have large impacts upon the everyday lives of the community. |
